Summertown Road at Rattlesnake Ridge

On November 6, 2010 Summertown Road performed at the Rattlesnake Ridge Community Center near Grayson, Kentucky. This was the first time I had heard them live and it really was cool. The music was top notch and these guys were very friendly and often had everyone laughing.

Bo Isaac is doing very well with the band and has some recent changes to the lineup. Awesome singer, song writer and performer. He even did a little ‘Elvis’.

Elmer Burchett, the bands regular banjo player is visiting in Canada and will be away until sometime late in November. Brandon Fox is currently filling in as the bands banjo. Brandon is a regular member of Out of Mind Bluegrass Band in Columbus, Ohio and a fine banjo player.

This weekend Josh Cantrell of Morgan County picked banjo on a couple tunes with Summertown Road. Josh often plays at Front Porch Pickin’ in Paintsville.

Steve Thomas threw in with Summertown Road about two months ago. He said he was asked to play with the band at the Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival and they “just hit it off”. Steve’s first professional job was with Del McCoury and the Dixie Pals. Steve, along with Tim Austin, started the Lonesome River Band. Over the years Steve Thomas has played with a lot of big names. I can tell you without a doubt that he can burn that fiddle up.

Zach Rambo played mandolin and did some singing for the band this weekend. Zach started playing guitar when he was only 7 years old and by the time he was 15 he had also learned banjo, guitar, banjo, dobro, bass and the mandolin.

Randy Thomas is the bass man and has played with the likes of Dave Evans, The Peach Mountain Boys and Hylo Brown. Randy also plays mandolin, guitar, bass and banjo.

If you get the opportunity to see Summertown Road in your area don’t miss ’em!

“Summertown Road is a very entertaining and energetic band. I really enjoyed picking with them at Poppy Mountain in September 2010. They are a great group of guys, and you can depend on them to put on a great show with some good hard-drivin’ bluegrass music.” – Marty Raybon

“Summertown Road is an exciting blend of traditional Bluegrass with a modern twist. Bo Isaac is a multi-talented young man with the ability to sing like nobody else and write songs that are from the heart. I can proudly reccomend them…you will not be disappointed.” Don Rigsby
