Here comes the 18th annual Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival September 14 – 18
Poppy Mountain is located on U.S. 60 East just outside Morehead, Kentucky (3715 US 60 East Morehead Ky 40351) (Just down the road from DeHart’s Tire and Bible)
The Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival is without a doubt one of the biggest events in bluegrass music in the area.
The Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival officially begins on September 14 but camping actually opens up on September 1. Camping sites with free electric/water hookups will be available on a limited basis. ATVs and golf carts permitted. There are lots of good times and lots of music being played before the actual festival even begins. (See the official website listed below for details and specifics).
Here are only a few of the bands and performers that will be at Poppy Mountain this year:
Marty Raybon, Hillbilly Gypsies, Jack Lewis, Billie Renee & Cumberland Gap, Blue River, Darrell Winkleman, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, The Bartley Brothers, Blue River, Melvin Goins & Windy Mountain, Joe Mullin & The Radio Ramblers, Ralph Stanley II, Lonesome River Band, Dave Evans, The Grascals, John Anderson, Junior Brown, Dr. Ralph Stanley, The James King Band, Clarence Gillium and Newground and MANY more!
If you’ve been around Morehead about this time of the year then you have seen the Poppy Mountain vehicles. What a great way to advertise a festival like this! Instead of big billboards along the way we get to see a collection of classic cars and trucks. This year they have an airplane car in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Well, I think they’re cool and I look forward to seeing them getting dragged out every year.
