The US 23 Country Music Museum presents live bluegrass every Thursday night at 7 pm.
Front Porch Pickin’ is a program that gives local entertainers a voice and music lovers the opportunity to hear and get to know them. The US 23 Country Music Museum is located in Paintsville, Kentucky near the intersection of Route 40 and US 23 just behind the Paintsville Information Center.
I went over to the US 23 Country Music Museum again this week. I really like that place though I wish it were a little bigger. The atmosphere is great, the musicians hang out in the lobby practicing, jamming and getting ready to go on stage for the crowd. When the weather is warmer they hang out on the porch for some real front porch pickin’! It is a great opportunity to get to meet some of the best local musicians and hear some excellent bluegrass music.
Admission is just one greenback dollar! An extremely good value and well worth the fun. In fact its amazing that you can get so much for only a buck, and that dollar goes to help support the US 23 Country Music Museum.
What’s Going at Front Porch Pickin’
There are lots of really talented musicians who are great at what they do but some of them are absolutely amazing. Chaston Carroll is well on his way to becoming one of the best mandolin players you’ll ever hear. Chaston is not only fast, he plays those eight strings with a style of his own. Lately, I have been hearing Chaston sing more often, I am convinced he will be a major artist in his time. I have no doubt that his father is very proud.
Josh Cantrell and Jared Goforth are two astounding banjo pickers you will probably see if you visit Front Porch Pickin’. Both these guys are super and it seems that Josh gets better every time I see him play.
Jared is the banjo part of the Bluegrass Riot which includes Dustin Newsome, Ernie Hurt and Simon Edwards. I really like Ernie’s style of singing and he plays that mandolin well.
Front Porch Pickin’ is a laid back time. It really is almost like hanging out on the porch just playing and listening to music with friends and family.
If you play music bring your instrument and jam with others. Although the show starts at 7 pm there is often a crowd of musicians and singers going at it an hour or two before the show.
David Carroll and Chaston Carroll, from New River Line, often come down to the US 23 Country Music Museum along with Ernie Hurt and Bluegrass Riot, Josh Cantrell and more.
